The Kansas City Mavericks are set to face the Tulsa Oilers on Sunday afternoon at the BOK Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma, for the last game in the series. The Mavericks have claimed victory in the last two matchups, while the Oilers are eager to turn the tide and seek redemption. Logan Neaton makes his goaltending debut for the Mavericks, marking his first appearance since joining the team in January. Talyn Boyko was in the net for the Oilers again to close the series.

First Period

The Mavericks’ Damien Giroux set the tone early, scoring less than two minutes into the game with assists from Cam Morrison and Jackson Berezowski. This was Giroux’s 15 goal of the season. The period was packed with penalties, resulting in several unsuccessful power plays for both teams. However, a high-sticking penalty on the Mavericks’ Marcus Crawford gave the Oilers an opportunity, which they capitalized on with a goal by Austin Albrecht at 9:47, assisted by Duggie Lagrone and Sean Olson. With less than seven minutes left in the period, Oilers Olivier Dame-Malka was able to find the back of the net to push the Oilers ahead, ending the period 2-1 over the Mavericks. Josh Nelson assisted that goal.

Second & Third Period

The second and Third periods both remained scoreless, with neither team able to get pucks past the goal tenders despite a five-minute significant penalty and a game misconduct by Mavericks Max Andreev. The Mavericks had 25 shots compared to the Oiler’s 15, but neither team could get a puck past the stellar goal-tending on both ends.

Final Stats

In his debut as a Maverick, Logan Neaton put on an impressive performance, stopping 31 of 33 shots, giving him a .939 save percentage for the game. Though he didn’t secure the win, it was a strong showing for his first outing in the net. The Oilers Talyn Boyko stopped 33 out of 34 pucks to win the game for the Oilers, giving him his 15th win for the season and making him the first star of the game. Boyko’s save percentage for the game was .971. Despite the loss, the Mavericks maintain their first-place position in the Mountain Division, and the Oilers are in fourth position behind Tahoe Knight Monsters and Wichita Thunder. The Mavericks face the Allen Americans for a three-game series at home.
