ECHL Game Recap: Maine Mariners vs Adirondack Thunder | 03/14/2025

Dakota Gilbert/Adirondack Thunder

The Adirondack Thunder and Maine Mariners faced off for the fourth time this season and the first time in 2025, with the road team taking the first three games of the series. Goaltending would be one of the talking points coming into the game as Jeremy Broduer was playing in his 200th pro game after putting up two shutouts last weekend, and on the other end of the ice, it would be Brad Arvanitis who struggled to start the season but coming into Friday had won his last three starts allowing just four goals over that stretch. It would be a slow-moving first period with the teams seeming to feel each other out again, but it would be the Mariners who got on the board first on the PP as Wyllum Deveaux fired a shot from the point that beat Brodeur at the 7:13 mark of the opening frame. For Deveaux, it would be his third goal in four games. It would be the third straight game where the Mariners would find the back of the net on the man-advantage. Maine would lead after the opening 20 minutes despite being outshot 8-5 in the 1st period.

“It’s been good, team’s played really well in front of me which has helped out and has probably out all three of us and I’m glad we’re trending the right way”

Maine would quickly double their lead in the second as Xavier Lamppa found a loose puck in front of the net and put it top-shelf to make it 2-0 just 53 seconds into the period. The Mariners would start to run away with the game as they would get a two-on-one just before the halfway mark of the period as Ayden MacDonald fed Matthew Philip for his eighth of the season. Adirondack would get their chance on the PP late in the period as they had some decent zone time and a couple of shots on net but couldn’t find a way to beat Arvanitis and would be down 3-0 after 40 despite holding the Mariners to just 13 shots on goal in the first 40 minutes of the game. Jacob Hudson would join the scoring party at the 5:05 mark of the third after taking advantage of a Thunder turnover and putting home his 10th of the season. Former Adirondack Thunder defenseman Tristan Thompson would have an assist on both of the goals in the second period.

“Ya it’s nice coming back. It’s just good to win, we really needed the wins and we’re just trying to make a playoff push and every point matters”

Adirondack would find a way to crawl themselves back in the game as Kevin O’Neil broke Brad Arvanitis’ shutout at the 10:09 mark for his 18th of the season. Gustav Muller returned to the Thunder lineup on Friday Night after missing all three games last weekend and would put home a rebound with just under four minutes to go. The 25-year-old defenseman has a goal and two assists for three points in his last four games. Adirondack would pull Brodeur with a little over two and half to go in the third, but wouldn’t be able to find the back of the net as the road warriors series continued as the Mariners would win 4-2 picking up their fourth win in their last five games.

“Ya, I think we like playing here. It goes back to last year’s playoff series, it was a hell of a series and it kinda carried into this year, all these games have been good game and we like playing here, I don’t know what it is but we get on our toes once we get here to Glens Falls”
