The Maine Mariners and Rapid City Rush were back in action for the second game of their three game series.

First Period

The Rush saw themselves have another slow start to their game. However, unlike Thursday night, they managed to keep the Mariners off the scoreboard in the first period. Despite the slow start, the Rush’s defense held strong, preventing any goals from Maine.

At the end of the first period, Rapid City and Maine were still tied at zero. The Mariners outshot the Rush 10-3, but the Rush’s goaltender made several key saves to keep the game scoreless.

Second Period

After a slow first period, the Rush bounced back in the second, replicating their performance from Thursday night. They got on the board early in the period. At 1:26, Billy Constantinou exited the penalty box and joined a two-on-one rush down the ice. Constantinou faked out Maine’s goaltender and scored on the blocker side, with an assist from Ryan Wagner.

The Rush extended their lead when Connor Mylymok completed a wraparound goal while down on his knees. Mylymok’s goal came at 9:08 and was assisted by his younger brother, Luke Mylymok.

The Rush were able to take a 2-0 lead into the third period after outshooting Maine 9-8 in the second.

Third Period

After a strong second period, the Rush didn’t get many shots, but they made the ones they took count. At 2:07 into the period, Luke Mylymok’s shot deflected off Connor Mylymok, allowing Parker Bowman to pick up the rebound and score. Bowman’s goal was assisted by the Mylymok brothers.

The Rush sealed the deal when Maine turned over the puck, and Blake Bennett put it into the empty net at 19:32. Bennett’s empty-netter was assisted by Deni Goure.

The Mariners outshot the Rush 10-6 in the third.

Final Stats

Rapid City won by a final score of 4-0, despite being outshot 28-18. Rapid City went 0/2 on the power play and 3/3 on the penalty kill, while Maine went 0/3 on the power play and 2/2 on the penalty kill. Rapid City’s goaltender, Matt Radomsky, made 28 saves on 28 shots for a perfect save percentage of 1.00. Maine’s goaltender, Nolan Maier, had 14 saves on 17 shots for a .824 save percentage.

Three Stars of the Game

  1. Rush goaltender Matt Radomsky (28 saves on 28 shots for a shutout)
  2. Rush forward Connor Mylymok (one goal, one assist, three shots, +2)
  3. Rush forward Luke Mylymok (two assists, +2)

Final Thoughts

Rapid City had a pretty decent game and was able to get bounces to go their way. Rush goaltender Matt Radomsky made saves for the team when needed, and the Rush were able to capitalize on their opportunities. While Rapid City found success with favorable bounces, the team will need to find ways to get more shots on net, as they won’t always be able to win with only 18 shots during the game.

The Rush and Mariners will be back in action Saturday night for Midnight Madness to close out their series. Puck drop will be at 11:59 pm.
