Norfolk Admirals vs. Trois-Rivieres Lions Game Recap 1/17/2025

In what was a very fast paced and entertaining first period, the Admirals controlled most of the play. All it takes is one mistake for a team to capitalize whether they are being outplayed or not, and the Lions did just that. Tommy Cormier found line mate and brother Xavier Cormier all alone in front of the net, dishing him a pass to bury in the back of the net at 17:23 of the opening frame. It did not take long for the Admirals to respond. On an innocent-looking shot, Stepan Timofeyev found the back of the net to the near-glove side of Cavallin. Aside from pushing and shoving, that is all the period would see. The Admirals led the shots total 14-8.

Just 2:32 into the middle frame, Timofeyev was back on the scoresheet under the goal column, giving the Admirals a 2-1 lead. Just over halfway through the second period, a beautiful drive to the net from Brandon Osmundson led to a rebound goal for Justin Young to make it 3-1 at 10:59. Penalty troubles eventually haunted the Admirals as Jakov Novak tallied on the Lions’ second powerplay of the game to bring them to within one. Despite a bit of late momentum in the period, the Lions foundthemselves trailing 3-2 heading into the final frame.

The third period saw the Admirals net two empty-net goals to put the game to bed with a 5-2 final. Brady Fleurent tallied the first of the empty netters at 18:06 of the third period. With just 37 seconds left, German Yavash sealed it with the Admirals’ fifth goal.

Both teams are back on the ice Jan. 17 at 7:05 p.m. for the second of their three-in-three this weekend .
