The ECHL had one game on the docket on Monday Night and it didn’t disappoint as the Savannah Ghost Pirates searched for their first five-game winning streak in franchise history while on the road to play the Orlando Solar Bears. Orlando came out of the gates fast, as they had all the momentum early in the period, but Evan Cormier stood on his head, making a ton of great saves early on to keep the Ghost Pirates in the game. Despite all of his efforts, the Solar Bears would get on the board first as Aaron Luchuk would find the back of the net for his fourth goal of the season to give the home team the early advantage. Savannah would tie up the game with two minutes remaining in the opening frame as Graham McPhee took a shot from the circle that would hit Ryan Fanti’s blocker and flutter in for his first goal as a member of the Ghost Pirates.
It would be a wild second period as the action kicked off just 1:03 after the period’s opening faceoff as Ara Nazarian would put home a rebound after the Solar Bears got a two-on-one opportunity to tie the game at one. However, the rest of the second period would belong to the Ghost Pirates as it would be a parade to the penalty box for Orlando as they were called for eight minor penalties in the middle frame, and Savannah would take advantage as Kyle Jeffers would take advantage of the first of two five-on-threes in the period as he found the back of the net which was the first of four unanswered goals in the period by the Ghost Pirates.
Heading into the third period, the Solar Bears were down 5-2, and things weren’t looking good for them, especially seeing that the Ghost Pirates had yet to give up three goals in a game, and their PK was perfect coming up into tonight. Despite those numbers, Orlando would cut Savannah’s lead down to two as Djibril Toure picked up his first pro goal, and then Brayden Low scored on the PP for his first of the season to make it a one-goal game. The Solar Bears would have their chances, but Reece Vitelli would get a short-handed breakaway and buried his second goal of the season as the Ghost Pirates would pick up their fifth straight win for the first time in franchise history in a game where 18 different players got on the scoresheet.
