The Rapid City Rush and South Carolina Stingrays wrapped up their three games series Sunday Evening in South Carolina.
First Period
The Stingrays and Rush had a very quiet first period on Sunday. The Stingrays controlled the puck most of the period, and they could find the back of the net first with a goal from Jamie Engelbert. Engelbert’s goal came 18:47 into the period and was assisted by Jayden Lee and Andrew Perrott. With the Stingrays having their underwear toss after the game’s first goal, they decided to go to intermission early.
When the two teams returned from intermission, they played the last 1:13 of the period, where nothing exciting happened. The Stingrays ended the first with a 1-0 lead after outshooting the Rush 12-7.
Second Period
Like Saturday night, the Stingrays found their fire in the second period. Only 31 seconds into the period, Micah Miller was sprung on a breakaway where he could find the back of the net. Blake Thompson assisted Miller’s goal.
The Rapid City Rush cut the Stingrays lead in half with a goal of their own 1:46 into the period from Simon Boyko. Zack Hoffman and Garrett Klotz assisted Boyko’s second of the season.
The Stingrays then got their two-goal lead back 6:29 into the period. Ryan Hofer got his second of the season, assisted by Thompson and Ben Hawerchuk. Charlie Combs then gave the Stingrays a 4-1 lead 8:31 into the period with assists from Justin Nachbaur and Reilly Webb, giving Webb his first professional point.
Andrew Perrott decided to join the second period goal frenzy. Perrott’s goal came 11:27 into the second and was assisted by Josh Wilkins and Micah Miller. After neither team had a lot of luck getting their powerplay going in the series, the Stingrays could convert with Combs’ second goal of the game. Micah Miller and Jayden Lee assisted Combs’ powerplay goal.
The Stingrays went into the second intermission with a 6-1 lead after outshooting the Rush 12-9.
Third Period
Austin Magera gave the Stingrays a 7-1 lead 4:46 into the third with his own goal. Blake Thompson and Josh Wilkins assisted Magera’s third of the season. Forty-seven seconds later, Reilly Webb scored to give the Stingrays an 8-1 lead. Justin Nachbaur and Jamie Engelbert assisted Webb’s first professional goal.
The Rush and Stingrays ended the third period, with both teams having ten shots.
