ECHL Game Recap: Savannah Ghost Pirates vs Adirondack Thunder | 11/21/2024

The Adirondack Thunder made their second of three stops on their Southern road trip as they played their first-ever game against the Savannah Ghost Pirates on Thursday Night at Enmarket Arena. One of the biggest things that has hurt the Thunder of late is slow starts, and for the third time in four games, the opponent’s first shot on goal would find the back of the net as Nicolas Zabaneh fed Ross Armour on the powerplay to open up the scoring at the 2:29 mark of the opening frame. Adirondack would do the same as their first shot on net came off the stick of Josh Filmon as he netted his first pro goal at the 5:58 mark of the period. The first period would come to an exciting end as Jackson van de Leest and Logan Drevitch would drop the gloves at the 14:34 mark, and then just over a minute later, Riley Hughes would find the back of the net on a delayed penalty as Savannah would take a 2-1 lead into the second period and would outshoot Adirondack 14-5 in the opening 20.

“Ya, it absoultley great seeing that guy get his first pro goal and we’re gonna keep going”

It wouldn’t take the Thunder long to tie the game, as 33 seconds into the second period, Andre Ghantous threw a puck off Evan Cormier’s back, which found the back of the net. Savannah would retake when Dennis Cesana would find the back of the net for his fourth of the year. The game’s physicality started to emerge late in the second as Shaw Boomhower and Will Riedell would drop the gloves, and both ended up with a minor on top of it as Boomhower got an extra two for roughing. Riedell got an extra two for instigating. Just like in the first period, Adirondack would again get outshot in the second, this time 15-8.

“I think we’re focusing on scoring goals, I think goals aren’t coming right now and we’re really focusing on putting the puck in the net but the starts from the D-zone, you gotta defend first and then we’ll get our chances”

Darian Skeoch on why team has given up so many odd-man chances latley

The third period would belong to the Ghost Pirates as Cesana netted his second goal of the game just 2:42 into the period. After starting off the season so well on the PK, the Ghost Pirates took advantage of their opportunities as Ross Armour scored his second goal of the night and the team’s second, on the man advantage. Adirondack would get within striking distance as Zach Bannister fed T.J. Friedmann, who found the back of the net for his second goal this season. Riley Hughes would cap off the night with an empty-netter as three different players had two goals on Thursday Night, including Ross Armour, who had a four-point night. Cormier made 17 saves in the win, while Jeremy Brodeur made 43 saves in the loss.
