The Savannah Ghost Pirates split the weekend homestand against the Orlando Solar Bears and Greenville Swamp Rabbits. One thing to note is that Savannah, as a team, is not decimated by injuries but by call-ups to the AHL affiliate, Charlotte Checkers.
Saturday- Orlando Solar Bears
Savannah battled for a good part of the 60 minutes, but the Solar Bears ended up taking the game into overtime.
During the opening frame, both teams kept each other off the scoreboard. However, that changed at 14:34 of the middle frame when Kai Schwindt earned his third goal on the season, with it being short-handed. Schwindt earned the goal off of the assist of Keaton Pherson and Nick Granowicz.
In the final frame, Orlando scored at 6:33 when Kelly Bent put one in past Keith Kinkaid to tie the game. Alex Cohen and Tyson Feist earned the assist on Bent’s first goal of the season. Savannah answered back at 7:42 when Pito Walton earned his first goal of the season off of the lone assist of Keltie Jeri-Leon.
At 18:31, Anthony Bardaro earned his eighth goal of the season and sent the game to overtime. Bent and Jarrett Lee earned the helpers.
A little over two minutes into the overtime period, at 2:12, Bardaro scored to win the game, with the assists coming from Ara Nazarian and Djibril Touré.
Sunday- Greenville Swamp Rabbits
Greenville dominated the game for much of the opening frame. The Ghost Pirates are very strong at getting the puck out of the crease and out of the board battles. At 13:38, Bryce Brodzinski netted his ninth goal of the season, with the helper being earned by Colton Young.
In the second frame, Greenville opened up scoring at 13:20 when Austin Saint earned his fourth goal of the season on a short-handed goal, with the assist coming from Mikael Robidoux. Savannah answered back at 16:50 when Reece Vitelli ripped one to the back of the net of Dryden McKay on a powerplay. Ross Armour and Logan Drevitch earned the assists. Assistant Captain Will Riedell earned his third goal of the season at 19:18 of the second frame. Liam Walsh and Drevitch earned the assists.
Heading into the final frame, Savannah dominated and did not let the prior night’s overtime period happen. Vitelli, at 8:06, shot one in past McKay again on a shorthanded goal off of the assist of Walsh and Denis Cesana. Greenville responded to Savannah’s goals at 11:29 when Parker Berge earned his fifth goal of the season off of the assist of Tate Singleton.
Devon Paliani earned his ninth and 10th goal of the season at 15:32 and 18:23 on back-to-back goals for Savannah, with one being on a powerplay. He was assisted by Drevitch, Vitelli, Zach Uens, and Walton.
Walsh put the bow on the holiday present for the Ghost Pirates at 18:58, and he was assisted by Armour on an empty-net, short-handed goal.
