ECHL Game Recap: Tahoe Night Monsters vs Kansas City Mavericks | 01/29/2025

The Kansas City Mavericks faced off against the Tahoe Knight Monsters at Cable Dahmer Arena in Independence, Missouri, for their fourth matchup of the season. The Mavericks were in second place behind the Tahoe Knight Monsters in the Mountain Division. The Knight Monsters had swept all three games in their last matchup, setting the stage for the Mavericks to seek redemption this round. Jack LaFontaine was the netminder for the Mavericks to start the series. Chase Brand made his first appearance as a Maverick, having played his last 25 games with the Adirondack Thunder.

First Period

The game started off quietly until Artur Cholach put the Knight Monsters on the board at 11:12, assisted by Simon Pinard and Patrick Newell, securing the first goal of the night.

Shortly after, Landon McCallum capitalized on a breakaway at 12:22, netting his 11th goal of the season. That goal was assisted by Jackson Berezowski and David Cotton, tying the score at 1-1 for the period.

Second Period

The second period mirrored the first with a slow start until Landon McCallum struck again at 11:40, scoring his second goal of the night with assists from Marcus Crawford and Jack LaFontaine. The Mavericks were able to hold the Knight Monsters scoreless throughout the second period. Heading into the third period, the Mavericks held a 2-1 lead.

Third Period

The third period remained scoreless despite multiple penalties and power play chances for both teams. Final score: Mavericks 2, Knight Monsters 1. Jack LaFontaine successfully stopped 27 out of 28 shots on goal, giving the Mavericks their 25th win of the season. Wednesday night’s win landed the Mavericks back in first place in the Mountain Division. The two teams meet again Friday night for a rematch and a fight for the first-place slot.
