The Adirondack Thunder and Trois-Rivieres Lions would continue their three-game series on Saturday, with the series shifting north of the border. The Thunder would be without Head Coach Pete MacArthur, who stayed back in Glens Falls to care for his wife and newborn child.
Coming into Saturday Night, Adirondack was being outscored 21-34 in the opening 20 minutes. Once again, it would be the first-period woes that would hurt the Thunder as Tyler Hylland found Justin Ducharme for his second of the season at the 5:53 mark, and then just 1:01 later, it would Wyatt McLeod with his first ECHL goal since May 19th when he was a member of the Utah Grizzlies. Chris Jandric would add one more for the Lions as Adirondack has given up nine goals in the last two games in the first 20 minutes. On a positive note, Adirondack would kill off both penalties they committed after allowing at least one PP goal in their past three games.
Adirondack would slowly get themselves back into the game in the second as Ryan Francis stayed hot as he picked up his fifth goal of the season at the 12:49 mark of the period. The Thunder would get a golden opportunity to tie cut the lead to one before the third as Anthony Beauregard took a minor for slashing and then, on his way to the penalty box, picked up an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty giving Adirondack a four minute PP, however they couldn’t get anything going on the man-advantage.
In the third, it would be Dylan Wendt on a nice solo effort who would cut the Lions’ lead to one at the 8:55 mark of the third. Wendt now has three goals in his last four games. That’s as close as Adirondack would get as Jakov Novak and Isaac Dufort added empty-net goals as the Lions won their fifth straight against Adirondack after losing the season’s first meeting in a shootout. The Lions and Thunder will finish their three-game series on Sunday at 3 pm.
