ECHL Game Recap: Trois-Rivieres Lions vs Adirondack Thunder | 01/05/2025

Trois-Rivieres Lions/ECHL

The Adirondack Thunder and Trois-Rivieres Lions met on Sunday Afternoon for the final game of their three-in-three weekend, which began Friday Night in Trois-Rivieres, as the Lions had taken the first two games of the series heading into Sunday afternoon. It wouldn’t take long for the gloves to drop on Sunday, as Sean Gulka and Mathieu Boislard dropped them just 2:52 after the opening faceoff. It would be a promising start for the Thunder, who held the Lions without a shot for the first five minutes of the period, but it would be Trois-Rivieres who got on the board first as Anthony Beauregard fed Jakov Novak would be left alone in front for his 12th goal of the season at the 6:48 mark of the period. Before the period was over, Gulka and Boislard would have a rematch at the 17:05 mark, with Gulka sending Boislard down to the ice. Both Boislard and Gulka would get game misconducts for their second fight of the game and for fighting before the drop of the puck.

In the second, the Thunder had their chance to tie the game up as they got a PP just 28 seconds into the period and then another one at the 6:10 mark but couldn’t take advantage of either opportunity. Trois-Rivieres would use the PK as a momentum boost as Anthony Beauregard would feed Alex Beaucage, who was trailing the play and would find the back of the net for his third goal of the weekend to make it 2-0 and less than two minutes later it would once again be Beauregard who this time fed Isaac Dufort in front for to make it 3-0. In the final minutes of the period, David Fessenden would make an unbelievable save, but his defense would let him down as Vincent Sevigny would find the rebound for his first career ECHL goal as the Lions would take a 4-0 lead.

Trois-Rivieires Lions/ECHL

Trois-Rivieres would waste no time extending their lead as Beauregard, who picked up assists on the first three goals of the game, would pick up his 10th goal of the year on a spin-o-rama just 1:36 into the third period. For the second time this weekend, the Lions would put up a six spot against Adirondack as Beaucage would send Tommy Cormier in all alone when he put home his ninth of the year at the 7:09 mark. Adirondack would avoid the shutout, as Kevin O’Neil found the back of the net for his sixth of the year and first since December 7th against the Reading Royals. Hunter Jones has yet to lose a regulation in his first 12 starts this season after making 32 saves on Sunday afternoon.

The Thunder’s losing streak now reaches four games, and throughout the three-game series, Adirondack was outscored 18-5 this weekend against the Lions. However, tonight was the first night Adirondack didn’t allow their opponents to have a PP

What’s Next For Adirondack

The Thunder will return home on Friday for a three-in-three against the Orlando Solar Bears. Adirondack is 5-2 all-time against Orlando and 3-0 at home against the Solar Bears. Adirondack, for the first time in a long time, comes into the week sitting in a nonplayoff position as they are now fifth in the North, three points behind the Railers. The two teams last met on March 3rd, 2023, in Orlando, where the Thunder won 3-0, and Jake Theut had a 32-save shutout.
