ECHL Game Recap: Trois-Rivieres Lions vs Adirondack Thunder | 02/16/2025

Dakota Gilbert/Adirondack Thunder

The Adirondack Thunder came into Sunday afternoon looking to give their fans something to cheer about before they hit the road for a season-long eight-game road-trip. Adirondack would get a PP opportunity less than two minutes after the opening faceoff but couldn’t take advantage. Dylan Wendt appeared to get the Thunder on the board at the 9:11 mark of the period. However, the goal would be called off to a high-sticking penalty, and just 51 seconds later, Tyler Hylland would open up the scoring for the Lions. Adirondack had gotten away with giving up just one goal on the double minor to T.J. Friedmann but nine seconds after the penalty was over, the Lions would strike again as Justin Ducharme fed Nicolas Guay in front to double the Lions lead. The Thunder would get another PP opportunity at the end of the period, but it would be Trois-Rivieres who took advantage as Morgan Adams-Moisan would finish off a short-handed two-on-one to give the Lions a 3-0 lead heading into the locker room.

Adirondack Thunder/ECHL

Adirondack would finally give their fans something to cheer about as Ty Gibson would feed Kevin O’Neil to get the Thunder on the board less than five minutes into the second period. The two teams would exchange PP goals as Xavier Cormier found Tyler Hylland in the slot for his second of the game at the 14:24 mark before Kevin O’Neil picked up his second of the game just 36 seconds to keep the Thunder in the game. The Lions would add two more PP goals in the third period as Tyler Hylland would finish off the hat-trick, as the Thunder would lose 6-2. Luke Cavallin would make 34 saves for his 11th win of the season.

Special teams would be the killer for the Thunder on Sunday as the gave up a season-high four PP goals and a short-handed goal, as five of the six goals scored by Trois-Rivieres came on the special teams. Alex Young would add two assists in his second game back from injury for the Thunder. One of the most notable things is that the Thunder, who had no problem playing a physical game, have stepped away from it lately with Shaw Boomhower, Darian Skeoch, Ryan Wheeler, and Sean Gulka out of the lineup. Kishaun Gervais has stepped up physically lately, but he’s a guy the Thunder can’t afford to lose with the laundry list of injuries they already have. Adirondack will now head to Trois-Rivieres next weekend for a three-in-three.
