The Adirondack Thunder came out of the Christmas/holiday break looking to change things around after a .500 start in their first 23 games of the season as they kicked off the weekend with a game against Trois-Rivieres Lions. However, before the puck even dropped, the Thunder would get some unfortunate news as they’ll be without head coach Pete MacArthur and assistant coach Mike Bergin for all three games of the weekend. Unfortunately, it wouldn’t be the start Adirondack wanted, as Tommy Cormier would get a breakaway less than three minutes in, and things would go from bad to worse as the Thunder would give up a short-handed goal to Nicolas Guay, as the Thunder would be down 2-0 less than 10 minutes into the opening period. Alex Young would get the Thunder on the board with a short-handed goal of his own as the Thunder now lead the ECHL in short-handed goals (7). Despite getting themselves back into the game, the Lions would add another goal on the special teams as Chris Jandric scored a PP goal to give the Lions a two-goal lead.
There would be some on-ice issues to begin the second period, which caused close to a 15-minute delay. The Lions would be able to add two more goals in the second as Morgan Adams Moisan would add a tip-in goal, and Nicolas Guay would add another goal on special teams as he scored a PP goal for his second goal of the night. There would be ice issues again in the third, but this time, it would be a shorter delay. Once the period got started, the two teams would exchange PP goals as Tommy Cormier would pick up his second goal of the night at the 7:30 mark, and Ryan Francis would find the back of the net for his first goal in his first game as a member of the Adirondack Thunder at the 17:30 mark. Six of the eight goals in Friday Night’s game would come from the special teams. Hunter Jones would make 29 saves and add an assist for his seventh win, as he has yet to lose a game in regulation in his first 10 starts this season. On the other side of the ice, Tyler Brennan had another shaky start, giving up six goals on 33 shots.
