The Adirondack Thunder looked to snap a seven-game losing streak against the Worcester Railers for the final game before the “All-Star Break.” Adirondack would get off to a hot start as Ryan Conroy opened the scoring on a nice rebound attempt just 1:08 into the period. Things were looking up for the Thunder, especially since their last win came in Worcester on December 29th, and Adirondack would hold the lead after 20 minutes of play despite being outshot 15-9.

“He’s done a great job putting the puck in the back of net for us this year and most importantley defensivley, moving his feet, playing super hard, being a menace at the net front, and getting into guys when he can so he’s been great all year and hopefully he continues”

Assistant Coach Mike Bergin on the play of Ryan Conroy

Worcester would stay in the game on Friday thanks to Hugo Ollas, who had a strong night, including two giant saves to keep the Railers in the game through the first period and a half. Riley Ginnell got the Railers on the board at 8:00 to tie the game up at one. The Railers wouldn’t lead for long as Kevin O’Neil would score on a one-timer at the 10:17 mark and then would score a PP goal just 1:11 later as the O’Neil-Filmon combo would strike once again. Late-period goals always swing the momentum as Worcester’s Matthew Kopperud scores with 45 seconds left to put the Railers within one heading into the third period.

“Ya, I think our penalty kill did really well in front of them and it gave our power play kind of the confidence to go out and do their job. You know we haven’t had a lot of power plays recently so it’s nice to see them put one in”

Tuzzolino on the PP goal to tie the game

Heading into Friday night, Adirondack was 8-0-0-1 when leading after 40 minutes of play. Just halfway through the third, the wheels would finally fall off for the Thunder as Mason Klee would score a PP at the 12:32 mark. Then, 29 seconds later, Matt DeMelis found the back of the net as the Railers had erased a two-goal deficit with three goals in 13:16. Hugo Ollas would make 29 saves in the win. Jeremy Brodeur made 37 saves games in his first ECHL start since December 28th.

“Ya, Hugo’s been great for us. He’s a character guy and we have a room where if you tend to be a good person and character you tend to be a pretty good hockey player”

Adirondack will now have a much-needed eight days off, as their losing streak has reached eight games. They will welcome the Norfolk Admirals to town before beginning a season-long seven-game road trip.
