The Florida Everblades have added a dynamic presence to their blue line with the signing of defenseman Gianfranco Cassaro for the 2025–26 season. Cassaro brings a blend of scoring ability, leadership experience, and championship pedigree that fits right into the Everblades’ tradition of strong two-way defenders.
From NCAA Standout to Pro Contributor
Cassaro’s journey to the Everblades includes an impressive NCAA career, most recently at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). He served as team captain and posted 38 points (18G, 20A) in his senior season, earning a spot on the NCAA (East) Second All-American Team. Before RIT, Cassaro played two seasons at UMass, where he was part of the 2021 NCAA National Championship team and a Hockey East Champion.
Breaking Out in the ECHL
Last season, Cassaro made his professional debut, suiting up for both the Reading Royals and the Lehigh Valley Phantoms (AHL). In 66 regular-season games with Reading, he tallied 13 goals and 25 assists, showcasing his ability to contribute offensively from the back end. His brief call-up to the AHL included one appearance with Lehigh Valley.
What He Brings to Florida
Cassaro’s skill set fits seamlessly into the Everblades’ identity. He’s a mobile, puck-moving defenseman with a quick release and the poise to quarterback a power play. While not the biggest player on the ice at 5’11”, his offensive instincts and intelligent positioning allow him to impact the game in all three zones. His championship experience at the collegiate level and his early professional growth make him a promising addition to Florida’s defensive core.
Looking Ahead
The Everblades continue to strengthen their roster for what promises to be a competitive 2025–26 campaign. Cassaro joins a blue line that values mobility, grit, and offensive support. Fans can catch him in action when Florida opens the season on the road:
