Earlier today, the Greensboro Gargoyles announced that they have signed forward Ethan Leyh for the upcoming ECHL season.
Background
Ethan Leyh is a 24-year-old forward who just signed his first professional contract with the Gargoyles. Leyh will be joining the Gargoyles after playing five seasons collegiately between Quinnipiac and Bentley University. During his time at Bentley University, he served as captain for two seasons, appearing in 72 games, scoring 30 goals, and adding 41 assists for 71 points. The nearly a point per game pace will hopefully carry over to Greensboro. Leyh’s first three seasons were spent with Quinnipiac, where he played in 90 games and scored 30 points.
Joining the Gargoyles
Gargoyles Head Coach Scott Burt has put a lot of effort into ensuring his first roster is full of hard workers and leaders. Leyh will fit right in with the rest of the roster so far and is someone Burt believes will be a great addition to the Gargoyles.
“He’s a very good player. He was drafted to the Spokane Chiefs when I was coaching there. He decided to go the college route and his coaches rave about his personality and leadership skills. As a young player entering his rookie season, that is a very important attribute that will add perfectly to our team culture.” – Head Coach Scott Burt (Via Greensboro Gargoyles Press Release)
Joining the ECHL is a major step up for Leyh, and he will be looking to make his mark on the ice early and often. Expect to see him excel at faceoffs and be defensively responsible. After the signing, he expressed his excitement to be joining the professional ranks.
“I am super excited for the opportunity to make my professional debut with Greensboro. I’m looking forward to connecting with the players and staff, and I can’t wait to move to a new city and compete in front of such an amazing fan base.” – Ethan Leyh from the Gargoyles website
Much like their parent club down the road in Raleigh, the Gargoyles have been building their roster to be a close-knit group that is defensively sound and tough to play against. The Gargoyles have signed six players to their roster so far, all of whom are forwards. September will prove to be a busy month in Greensboro, as the team will need to assemble an entire roster before games begin in October.
