Greenville, S.C. — As the Greenville Swamp Rabbits continue building up their roster with returning faces, the club announced a new player signing of a rookie player. On Sept. 2, the club announced that they signed rookie forward Patrick Moynihan.
Moynihan, 23 years old, 5-foot-11, and 183 pounds, appeared in his first professional exposure during last season for the Chicago Wolves in the American Hockey League (AHL). Hailing from Millis, Massachusetts, the right winger played in one game for the Wolves. He is originally a sixth round, 158 overall by the New Jersey Devils during the 2019 NHL Draft.
His inaugural professional appearance came after he completed his fifth season in the NCAA, with the most recent being for the University of Notre Dame, where he participated in 36 games. After those 36 games during last season, Moynihan accumulated 24 points from ten goals and 14 assists. During the last four seasons in the NCAA, the winger played for Providence College. After his four season tenure with Providence, Moynihan contributed 71 points in 123 games from 37 goals and 34 assists. In total, he has played in 159 games from five seasons in the NCAA. The 23-year-old accumulated 47 goals and 48 assists from 95 points.
It is worth mentioning that Moynihan also participated in the U20 World Junior Cup for Team USA during the 2020-21 season, where he appeared in five games (four assists). He also was awarded the WJC gold medal. Along with the U20 appearance, the winger also appeared in seven games for the U18 WJC, where he notched three assists, and earned a bronze medal. Moynihan made his first world junior appearance during 2017-18 under the U18 WJC for Team USA, when he played in six games and earned two goals and an assist.
Moynihan will be joining the Swamp Rabbits to commend his second season in professional hockey, as the team will start the regular season on Oct. 18 against the Orlando Solar Bears.
