GREENVILLE, S.C. — The Greenville Swamp Rabbits announced that they have signed and called up a player from the SPHL ahead of this weekend’s home match-up against the Jacksonville Icemen. Today, Dec. 28, the club signed a 26-year-old forward from the Fayetteville Marksmen, Mason Emoff, to a standard player contract (SPC).
Emoff, 5’10” and 170 pounds, is entering his second season in the ECHL after playing the previous two seasons in the SPHL. Last season, the right-shooting forward appeared in eight games with the Kalamazoo Wings, recording only an assist.
In the midst of that campaign, Emoff skated in 31 games with the Quad City Storm, racking up seven points from four goals and three assists. For this season, he made 18 appearances for the Marksmen, tallying up six goals and eight assists.
In terms of professional hockey experience, the Orangeville, Ontario native is in his second season within pro hockey. Prior to making his debut in both the SPHL and ECHL, he finished out his fourth season for Manhattanville College as the team’s captain during 2022-23, when he posted 24 points from 11 goals and 13 assists in just 26 contests.
A fun fact about this forward is that during his final season in NCAA-III hockey, Emoff was coached under Adam Dauda — the Swamp Rabbits’ current assistant coach. Playing four years in NCAA Division Three ranks, Emoff accumulated 48 points from 18 goals and 30 assists in 69 games.
As the Swamp Rabbits battle tough injuries and numerous AHL call-ups, the team made a good choice by signing a new player to their roster. With the current standings not looking great for the club—they are seventh in the South Division as of Dec. 28—the need for offensive depth is growing, but this does not completely dismiss their defensive inconsistency.
Whether the team will sign a new defender remains to be seen; however, they have added an offensive player previously coached by Dauda and with prior ECHL experience.
The Swamp Rabbits will play the Jacksonville Icemen tonight at 7:05 p.m. at Bon Secours Wellness Arena, hosting their late Christmas Vacation special. Another game against the Icemen will be played tomorrow afternoon at 3:05 p.m. at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena.
