Greenville, S.C. — After the Greenville Swamp Rabbits made a significant player extension with their captain, Ben Freeman, last week, the club hasn’t taken its foot off the gas just yet for roster building. As of today, August 6, the Greenville team has re-signed two d-men: Jacob Modry and Logan Britt. The extensions come after the team had previously signed two defenders in Max Coyle and Joshua Karlsson. Now they’re up by four, with plenty of time to complete an entire six or seven defensive core.
Jacob Modry will enter his third season in the ECHL, with this upcoming season being his first full year in a Rabbits sweater. Modry is 25, 6’6, and 216 pounds (98 kg), who shoots left. He started playing pro during the 2022-23 season for the Savannah Ghost Pirates after completing his final season in the NCAA. For his inaugural but short run in the Premier Double-A Hockey League, Modry played just three games and earned an assist. In the following season, he signed with the Newfoundland Growlers – now a former ECHL team – where he would play just 20 games, earning two goals and two assists before getting traded to the Swamp Rabbits. Modry was traded to Greenville on December 29, 2023, for future considerations and would not play his first game in an orange sweater until January 20 against the Jacksonville Icemen — earning no points. The El Segundo, California native, played just 22 games for the Rabbits, recording no points, with his last game played being in Jacksonville on March 22. Modry did not make the cut for the 2024 playoffs against the Orlando Solar Bears, as defenders such as Tyler Inamoto, Max Martin, and Logan Britt got the nod over him. So he stayed on reserve during the short, six-game series against Orlando.
Modry’s Amateur Career
Before turning professional with the Ghost Pirates in 2023, Modry played his final season in the NCAA for SUNY-Plattsburgh (NCAA III), when he recorded 23 points from 28 games (4G-19A). In the season before, he played 26 games, earning 18 points (4G-14A). For the 2020-21 season, Modry ended up playing for a different NCAA team: Merrimack College. At that institution, he played just two seasons there, starting in 2019 and ending in 2021. For Merrimack College, Modry played 36 games, racking up only three points from three assists. As for his totals in the NCAA, the defenseman from California played 90 games, tallying up eight goals and 36 assists for 44 points.
For Logan Britt, the defenseman first joined the Swamp Rabbits during the 2023-24 season when he played his first pro game in Orlando on April 5, earning no points but would take a minor penalty. He finished out the regular season by playing four games, earning his first point from an assist against Orlando on April 6. He also played five games for the 2024 playoff series against Orlando, earning an assist on April 28 in Orlando. Britt, 25, 6’2, and 190 lbs (86 kg), who shoots left, played five seasons in the NCAA, concluding the season before joining Greenville.
Britt’s Amateur Career
Britt’s NCAA collegiate career began in 2019-20 for Quinnipiac University, where he played 30 games (1G-1A). For the following season, the defender from Crystal Lake, Illinois, played his final season for Quinnipiac, playing 27 games (2G-3A). In his third season in the NCAA, Britt joined Sacred Heart University, where he played 37 games (3G-18A—21PTS). For the 2022-23 season, he played 37 games, recording 12 points from two goals and ten assists. For Britt’s fifth and final season in the NCAA, he played with a third team, the University of North Dakota, where he played 40 games, earning seven goals and assists. Before going into the NCAA, he spent three seasons in the juniors of USA Hockey. First starting in the NAHL for 2016-17 for Aberdeen Wings, Britt played 14 games with no points tallied up. In his second season with the Wings, he had a much better season by tallying up 23 points (1G-22A) for 52 games. For his final season, Britt played in the USHL for two teams. His first USHL team was with the Lincoln Stars (46GP, 5G-13A), and his last was with Sioux Falls (17GP, 3A).
The Greenville Swamp Rabbits’ regular season will begin on October 18 at home ice against the Orlando Solar Bears.
