Greenville, S.C. — As the ECHL’s 2024-25 regular season is 31 days away, the Greenville Swamp Rabbits are not taking their foot off the gas when it comes to signing players to their roster. Today, September 17, the club announced that a familiar face is making a return in an orange and navy sweater, Jake Flynn.
About Flynn
Flynn, 23, is 6-foot and 185 pounds. He will begin his second season in professional and ECHL hockey for the Rabbits after getting his first taste of professional hockey last season. The right-handed defenseman, who hails from Weymouth, Massachusetts, played in his first ECHL game on March 22 against the Jacksonville Icemen, where he earned an assist.
He continued his regular season play for nine more games, with the final game of the season being against the Savannah Ghost Pirates, where he participated in his first fight. After playing in ten regular season games for the Rabbits, Flynn earned a goal and two assists.
However, his campaign wasn’t over just yet, as he received the opportunity to play in the Kelly Cup playoffs against the Orlando Solar Bears. Flynn played in six Kelly Cup Playoff Games last season with Greenville.
Flynn’s Collegiate Campaign
During last season and before making his pro debut, Flynn participated in his final NCAA season for the University of Connecticut (UCONN). In that season for the Huskies, the defender earned six points in 33 games — from one goal and five assists. Flynn was present for five seasons in the NCAA with the Huskies.
His inaugural season was the 2019-20 season. In his fourth season with UConn, Flynn earned the title of alternate captain, and this honor propelled him to record his highest point total at the collegiate level. In 35 games, the defenseman accumulated 14 points from four goals and ten assists.
After his five-season campaign in the NCAA with the Huskies, Flynn participated in 152 games and earned 45 points from ten goals and 35 assists. He also took 45 penalty minutes in total from those 152 games.
The Swamp Rabbits will start the 2024-25 regular season on October 18 against the Solar Bears at Bon Secours Wellness Arena. They will also host a preseason game on October 9 against the South Carolina Stingrays at home ice.
