Greenville, S.C. — In the past week, the Greenville Swamp Rabbits have made significant roster moves to their 2024-25 season roster. Recently, on Sept. 10, the club announced that they made a trade with the Worcester Railers for Zach White in exchange for future considerations. Fast forward to two days later — as of today — Sept. 12, the club announced that they have signed rookie forward from the University of Western Ontario, Reed Morison.

About Morison

Morison, 26, 6-foot-3, and 200 pounds from Calgary, Alberta, is now the eleventh forward and seventeenth player currently signed under the Swamp Rabbits. The 26-year-old center will be entering his first professional season appearance in the ECHL after closing out his fifth season for the UWO Mustangs.

In his most recent campaign for the Mustangs, the center, who shoots left, racked 12 points in 23 games — six goals and six assists, respectively. This would be his collegiate best season in USports. For four seasons — in which he actively played — Morison notched 33 points in 85 contests. He accumulated 17 goals and 16 assists. Furthermore, he also participated in ten playoff games for the Mustangs over two seasons. The center recorded just a point from a single goal for those ten contests.

His Junior Campaign

Additionally, before entering U Sports, Morison participated in multiple seasons of junior hockey. He spent three seasons in the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL). His most recent season was during the 2018–19 season when he played 59 games for the Fort McMurray Oil Barons. Of those 59 contests, concluding his final campaign in junior hockey with the Oil Barons, Morison contributed 41 goals and 38 assists for 79 points. It is worth mentioning that Morison earned the most goals in the AJHL 2018-19 season with 41 goals scored.

Over three seasons in the AJHL, Morison played in 156 games and earned 156 points from 74 goals and 82 assists. He also participated in 23 playoff games during those three seasons, where he accumulated eight goals and 14 assists. During his time in the juniors, Morison also spent time in the Western Hockey League (WHL), one of the highest junior leagues in North America, sanctioned under the Canadian Hockey League (CHL). During the 2016-17 season, the center participated in 64 games with the Kootenay Ice — racking up two goals and five assists. As for his totals in the WHL, Morison appeared in four seasons while playing in 75 contests; he notched just three goals and five assists.

Official Swamp Rabbits’ Statement

Morison will be joining a former teammate with the Swamp Rabbits: Colton Young. In an interview by the Swamp Rabbits, Morison said:

“Colton Young, who I grew up playing with, Greenville checks all the boxes: it’s a great city, great fans, and an awesome organization to be a part of. I’m excited for the year to begin,”

The Swamp Rabbits will commend the 2024-25 season on Oct. 18 at home ice against the Orlando Solar Bears. They will also host a single preseason game on Oct. 8 against the South Carolina Stingrays at Bon Secours Wellness Arena.
