Greenville, S.C. — It is a big day for the Swamp Rabbits, as the club announced a series of player signings on July 30. Today, it was announced that the Greenville Swamp Rabbits signed defenseman Joshua Karlsson to a standard player contract and have also signed rookie forward from Michigan Tech, Arvid Caderoth, to a player contract. Caderoth was traded to Greenville from the Fort Wayne Komets, plus future considerations, in exchange for Brannon McManus. The trade comes after McManus had a solid season during the 2023–24 season, as he notched up 13 goals and 34 assists in 71 games and was the second-highest point maker for his team—several points below Carter Souch.

About Joshua Karlsson

Karlsson, 23, 6’9, and 225 lb (102kg), started playing professionally in the SPHL during the 2023-24 season after playing ten games for Lindlövens IF in Sweden. The large defender, who shoots left, played 20 games for the Knoxville Ice Bears, tallying seven assists. During that season, Karlsson got called up to the ECHL by the Kansas City Mavericks, where he ended up playing just 14 games, earning only a goal, before getting traded to Greenville. His season was short with the Swamp Rabbits, however, as he only played a single game before getting released. Now that he’s signed with the Swamp Rabbits, Karlsson will enter in his second pro season in the ECHL.

Before turning professional in North America, Karlsson played in Sweden, with his latest being with Lindlövens IF of HockeyEttan. The season before that was with Örebro HK of the SHL, when he played just three games there with no points recorded, along with the Örebro HK J20 (2GP) and the Lindlövens IF (32GP, 4G/9A). For the 2021-22 season, the Swedish native played 20 games for Lindlövens IF (2G-5A) and 23 for AIK of HA (2A). In the season before that, he played 33 games for Lindlövens with a tally of two goals and five assists.

About Arvid Caderoth

Caderoth is yet another Swedish player. Born in Göteberg, the 24-year-old started playing professionally in North America last season for the Fort Wayne Komets. But the last four seasons were with Michigan Tech. The 6’5, right-wing/center played just four games for Fort Wayne before the start of the playoffs.

During the 2023-24 season before getting the call-up from the Komets, Caderoth played his final season for Michigan Tech, as he played 35 games and tallied up seven goals and six assists for thirteen points. Between 2022-24, he was captain of the team. Caderoth’s NCAA collegiate career began in the 2020-21 season, where he played just 30 games (2G-16A). In total, he played 140 games, recording 15 goals and 41 assists for 56 points with Michigan Tech. Before coming to North America to play in the NCAA, Caderoth spent all his time in his home country of Sweden. During the 2019-20 season, he bounced between three different teams for three different levels. He played 32 games for Frölunda HC as captain (8G-25A), 28 for Hanhals IF (8G-8A), and three at the IIHF International Juniors (1A).

The Swamp Rabbits will commence the 2024 regular season at home on October 18 as they will face their division rivals, the Orlando Solar Bears.
