Greenville, SC — With the trade deadline approaching in the ECHL, the Swamp Rabbits and among other teams in the league are at work with signing rookie players to playing contracts. Today, the Greenville club announced that they’ve signed d-man Jake Flynn from the NCAA UConn Huskies to a playing contract. Flynn, 22, 6ft and 180 pounds, finished his final season with the UConn Huskies, tallying up a goal and five assists from 33 games. The young defenseman from Weymouth, Massachusetts, played five seasons for the New England club in Connecticut, 152 games while putting up 45 points. In total, Flynn scored 10 goals and posted 35 assists. Flynn also shoots at right. In addition, the UConn Husky played with current Rabbits’ captain, Ben Freeman. Before playing in his rookie season for the Huskies back in the 2019-20 season, Flynn played a season for the U18 Boston Jr. Eagles (EHF 18U Elite). Flynn barely spent time away from the New England area, perhaps a known area of notorious hockey of all levels. Flynn’s first game is uncertain, as the Rabbits currently have a solid roster of d-men, including the recently activated addition of Bobby Russell, who missed several games due to injury. The Swamp Rabbits also added Arnaud Vachon who spent four years at Colgate and spent his final year of eligibility at Augustana University. He put up 25 goals and 27 assists for 52 points in 160 NCAA games.
Greenville also released defenceman Jake Stevens, who has played in 26 games this season between the Swamp Rabbits and Orlando Solar Bears. He put up three goals and six assists for nine points.
The Swamp Rabbits will play two games in Jacksonville this week, starting March 22 at 7:05. Currently Jacksonville is 2nd in the south division with 78 points, while the Rabbits remain first in the conference, South division, and third in the league with 83 points. The clock is ticking for which teams clinch their playoff spots and who they play against.
