ECHL: Hunter Vorva Heads Overseas

Stacey Grubich/InsideTheRink

The Kalamazoo Wings will be on the hunt for a new goaltender as Hunter Vorva is heading overseas to the UK to join the Nottingham Panthers; Vorva joins former Greenville Swamp Rabbits goaltender Ryan Bednard, who also joined Nottingham today. Prior to joining the K-Wings, the 28-year-old goaltender spent the 2020-21 season in France, where he went 7-4 with a 2.69 GAA, .905SV%, and one shutout as Marseille would end up winning the championship; he would spend the following season in the SPHL with the Huntsville Havoc, where he would go 22-8-2 with a 1.93 GAA, .934SV%, and three shutouts. He would win SPHL goaltender of the year and would lead the league in GAA and SV%. In 63 games with the K-Wings, the Kalamazoo native would put up a record of 33-23-2 with a 2.55 GAA, .920SV%, and four shutouts; he would play in three Kelly Cup Playoff Games with Kalamazoo but would fail to pick up a win in all three of those starts.

Heading into next season, the Kalamazoo Wings will rely on Jonathan Lemieux. Lemieux played in 39 games with Kalamazoo despite being on an AHL deal with Abbotsford; he signed a one-year extension with Abbotsford last month. The K-Wings are one of only a few teams that have yet to announce their first signing for the 2024-25 season, but once the Wings do start announcing players, expect there to be at least one new face for the team in between the pipes to split time with Lemieux.
