
The Kansas City Mavericks have announced that they’ve signed rookie goaltender Ian Shane for the 2025-26 season. Shane, 24, made his ECHL debut last season, signing an Amateur Try-Out Agreement with the Norfolk Admirals. During his five-game stint with Norfolk, he went 3-0-2 with a 2.54 GAA, .913SV%, and one shutout, which included playing in all three games of a three-in-three against the Iowa Heartlanders. Shane would be a big piece for the Mavericks heading into next season, especially with Jack LaFontaine and Victor Östman expected to fight for the backup role with the Coachella Valley Firebirds next season. LaFonatain and Östaman combined to play in just seven games last season at the AHL level.
The Mannathan Beach, California, native spent his NCAA career at Cornell University, where he four seasons. In 118 games with the Big Red, he went 66-32-16 with a 1.85 GAA, .917SV%, and 11 shutouts. During the 2023-24 season, he went 22-5-6 with a 1.69 GAA, .923SV%, and three shutouts. Those numbers would lead Cornell to an ECAC Championship. Shane would be named the ECAC Goaltender of the Year and would be nominated for the Hobey Baker Award.
Junior Career
Shane would spend two years in junior with the majority of his time coming in the USHL with the Chicago Steel. In 29 games with the Steel, he would put up a 20-5-3 record with a 3.56 GAA, .873SV%, and one shutout. He finished his junior career in the NAHL with the Bismarck Bobcats. In 16 games with the Bobcats, Shane went 8-6-1 with a 2.60 GAA and .914SV%. During the 2021 USHL Playoffs, Shane went 0-2 with a 3.80 GAA and .889SV% in three games.
