Tuesday night, the Savannah Ghost Pirates faced the Jacksonville Icemen at home. It was Jewish Heritage Night at Enmarket Arena – an event that Savannah was proud to host, considering the city has one of the oldest temples in the world. One of the local Rabbis delivered the National Anthem, and so many of the Ghost Pirates’ loyal Jewish fans dressed to show their pride in their heritage.
Unfortunately, the Ghost Pirates ended up getting shut out by Jacksonville 4-0. Although the home team had a lot of chances, they couldn’t beat Michael Houser, who stopped all 25 shots he faced as the Ghost Pirates were outshot 37-25 in the game.
Neither team could find the back of the net for most of the first period, but Craig Martin’s shot with 11.3 left in the first would beat Micheal Bullion to give Jacksonville a 1-0 lead. Starting off the next period with two penalties from both teams, Garrett Van Wyhe and Logan Drevitch both got double minors for roughing. The Icemen would double their lead as Dominick Merch, leading to tensions boiling over as Lodermeier would get two separate penalties for roughing, and Patrick Guay would pick up a minor for roughing as well. The next and final two goals scored in the final period with the first being by Luc Brown, assisted by Brendan Harris and Craig Martin. Finally, as Savannah pulled Michael Bullion from the goal for the two-man advantage, Derek Lodermeier hit the empty net at 16:39 in the final 20 minutes. As a way of ending the game, Darian Skeoch, enforcer of the Ghost Pirates, roughed up one of his opponents as the clock ran down.
The Ghost Pirates play next at home on Friday and Saturday this week.
