The Idaho Steelheads have announced that they have signed 6’2″ defenseman Charlie Dodero for the 2025-26 season.
Early Professional Career
Charlie Dodero started his professional career in the ECHL with the Greenville Road Warriors in the 2013-14 season. He played in 14 games with Greenville before joining the Idaho Steelheads for a few seasons. Dodero signed an AHL contract with the Syracuse Crunch, where he spent parts of the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons. Dodero spent the other part of his season in the ECHL with the Greenville Swamp Rabbits before returning to the Steelheads for three seasons. He has played in 46 AHL games, with one goal and four assists with 89 penalty minutes and a +5. In the ECHL, he has registered 23 goals and 67 assists for 90 points with 456 penalty minutes and a -8 in 256 games. He has one goal and 11 assists for 12 points with 31 penalty minutes and a -5 in 35 ECHL playoff games.
Overseas Experience
From there, Dodero headed overseas, beginning his international career in Sweden during the 2018–19 season. He went on to spend seven seasons abroad, playing in Sweden, Austria, France, Slovenia, and England.
In the 2024–25 season, Dodero played in the EIHL with the Guildford Flames, where he registered seven goals and 20 assists for 27 points with 63 penalty minutes and a +18 rating in 36 games played.
Style of Play
Charlie Dodero is a defenseman who can provide both offense and physicality on top of his defensive skills. He has speed and is able to read the ice well, allowing him to score from both high and low in the zone. Dodero has not fought in recent years while overseas, but in his previous time in the ECHL, he was not afraid to drop the gloves when needed or lay hits to gain possession of the puck.
