ECHL: Idaho Steelheads Re-Sign Captain for 2024-25 Season

The Idaho Steelheads have announced that they have re-signed Captain AJ White for the 2024-25 season. White is a 6’2″ forward from Dearborn, Michigan.

Collegiate Career

AJ White began his collegiate career in the 2012-13 season at University of Massachusetts-Lowell, playing at the Division I level. White spent four years at Lowell playing in 153 games, where he had 28 goals and 51 assists for 79 points. He had 28 penalty minutes and a plus/minus of 42. White and UMass-Lowell were the Hockey East NCAA Champions in the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons. They were also the Hockey East NCAA Regular Season Champions in the 2012-13 season. In his sophomore season, White was named to the NCAA Hockey East All-Tournament Team and then captained UMass-Lowell in his senior season.

Professional Career

After completing his collegiate career, White signed in the AHL with the Milwaukee Admirals to finish the 2015-16 season. He also spent some time in the AHL with the Providence Bruins during the 2016-17 season when he received callups from the Atlanta Gladiators. White played in 17 AHL games, where he had two assists. He had two penalty minutes and a plus/minus of -1. Since then, White has played in the ECHL, splitting his time between the Atlanta Gladiators, Utah Grizzlies, and Idaho Steelheads. White has played in 525 ECHL games through eight seasons where he has played in 70 or more games in five of the eight seasons that he’s played in, including two seasons where he played in all 72 games. In his career, White has 133 goals and 237 assists for 370 points. He has 109 penalty minutes and a plus/minus of +59. White has played five seasons in the playoffs, four with Idaho and one with Utah. He has played in 55 games, where he has 13 goals and 15 assists for 28 points. He has eight penalty minutes and a plus/minus of -1.

White has played six seasons for the Idaho Steelheads, captaining the team in five of those seasons. He has played in 416 games in a Steelheads jersey where he has 113 goals and 197 assists for 310 points. He has 74 penalty minutes and a plus/minus of +75. In the 2023-24 season, White played in 71 games with Idaho, where he had 27 goals and 39 assists for 66 points. He had eight penalty minutes and a plus/minus of +2. White played in ten of their playoff games, where he had three goals and three assists for six points. He had four penalty minutes and a plus/minus of +6.

The 2024-25 season will be White’s tenth professional season, ninth ECHL season, and seventh season with Idaho; he is 21 games away from being the franchise leader in games played for the Steelheads. It will be his fourth consecutive season with the Steelheads after playing for the Utah Grizzlies in the 2021-22 season.
