ECHL: Idaho Steelheads Re-Sign Forward From Madison, Wisconsin

The Idaho Steelheads have announced that they have re-signed forward Ty Pelton-Byce for the 2024-25 ECHL season.

Collegiate Career

Ty Pelton-Byce started his collegiate career at Harvard University in 2016-17, playing Division I hockey. In his two seasons at Harvard, Pelton-Byce played in 66 games, where he had 11 goals and 22 assists for 33 points. He had 22 penalty minutes and a plus/minus of +3. He then transferred to the University of Wisconsin for his junior and senior seasons. He did not play in the 2018-19 season, as that was his NCAA Transfer Year. But in his two seasons at Wisconsin, Pelton-Byce played in 56 games where he had 21 goals and 34 assists for 55 points. He had eight penalty minutes and a plus/minus of +9.

In the 2016-17 season, Pelton-Byce and Harvard won the ECAC championship and the Beanpot Tournament, and they were the ECAC regular season champions with Union. In the 2020-21 season, Pelton-Byce and Wisconsin were the B1G Regular Season champions, and Pelton-Byce was named an honorable mention on the B1G All-Star team. Pelton-Byce also was an assistant captain for Wisconsin in the 2020-21 season.

Professional Career

After completing his collegiate career, Pelton-Byce finished his 2020-21 season in the AHL with the Manitoba Moose, where he played 11 games. Pelton-Byce then played 14 games for the Manitoba Moose in the 2021-22 season. In his 25 games with the Moose, he had two goals and two assists for four points. He had eight penalty minutes and a plus/minus of -6. Pelton-Byce also spent part of the 2021-22 season in the ECHL with the Newfoundland Growlers. In his 17 games with the Growlers, he had three goals and six assists for nine points. He had four penalty minutes and a plus/minus of -4. Pelton-Byce then signed with the Idaho Steelheads for the 2022-23 season, where he has spent the past two seasons. He has played in 100 games in a Steelheads jersey, where he had 36 goals and 70 assists for 106 points. He has 46 penalty minutes and a plus/minus of +50. Pelton-Byce has played in the playoffs with the Steelheads in both seasons. He has played in 30 playoff games, where he has 14 goals and 19 assists for 33 points. He has ten penalty minutes and a plus/minus of +10. Pelton-Byce got more AHL experience in the 2023-24 season with the Texas Stars and Henderson Silver Knights. He played in a total of six games between the two teams, two with Texas and four with Henderson. In the 2023-24 season, Pelton-Byce played in 57 games with the Steelheads, where he had 17 goals and 43 assists for 60 points. He had 30 penalty minutes and a plus/minus of +24.

Pelton-Byce is a very lethal forward who can read the puck and ice extremely well, and he knows how to find the back of the net really well and can set his teammates up to find the back of the net. He has a lot of speed as well that helps him spring himself and teammates on breakaways or to help lead the charge up the ice. The 2024-25 season will be Pelton-Byce’s third season with the Steelheads and fifth professional season.
