
The Idaho Steelheads have re-signed 6’0″ defenseman Trevor Zins for the 2025-26 season. Idaho now has five defenseman and 12 players signed for the 2025-26 season.
Junior and Collegiate Career
Trevor Zins started his junior career in the USHL with the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders. He played in 72 games, where he had one goal and eight assists for nine points with 30 penalty minutes and a -31. Zins then joined the Topeka Roadrunners in the NAHL for a brief stint, during which he recorded six assists and ten penalty minutes in nine games played. He then finished his junior career in the BCHL with the Trail Smoke Eaters. In 99 BCHL games, Zins had 15 goals and 41 assists for 56 points with 86 penalty minutes. He had two goals and ten assists for 12 points with 14 penalty minutes in 23 playoff games with the Smoke Eaters.
The St. Michael, Minnesota native then returned to Minnesota and started his collegiate career at St. Cloud State University. Zins spent two seasons at St. Cloud State before transferring to the University of St. Thomas after not getting any ice time in his two seasons with the Huskies. Zins then spent two seasons with the Tommies, where he registered four goals and 15 assists for 19 points with 28 penalty minutes and a -37 in 69 games played.
Professional Career
After completing his collegiate career, Zins signed in the ECHL with the Indy Fuel before being traded to the Idaho Steelheads. Thus far, Zins has played in 136 ECHL games, where he has five goals and 22 assists for 27 points with 66 penalty minutes and a +15. In the 2024-25 season with the Steelheads, Zins played in all 72 regular-season games, where he had one goal and 14 assists for 15 points with 38 penalty minutes and a +10.
Trevor Zins has really started to find success on the ice during his time with the Steelheads. Zins’ offense has also stepped up after he set a career high in assists and points in the 2024-25 season with his 14 assists and 15 points. Zin has begun to solidify his role in the Steelheads’ defense, consistently proving that he can be a top defenseman for the Team and limit opponents’ scoring chances.
