ECHL: Iowa’s DeRidder Earns Goalie of the Week

Following the Heartlander’s Sweep of the road leg of their three-game series with the Kalamazoo Wings, Drew DeRidder has earned the Warrior Hockey ECHL Goalie of the Week for the week of January 29-February 4, 2024.

DeRidder and the Heartlanders played two games, winning by a score of 2-1 on Friday, While Casey Dornbach’s seventh goal of the season cemented a 3-2 overtime win on Saturday. Here is part of what earned the week’s award:

DeRidder made 59 saves across 122 minutes of weekend hockey, an average of 1.48 goals per hour of play. DeRidder improves to 7-3-2 on the season and now leads Iowa in points in the standings per start (1.23), save percentage (.911), and is a close second in average goals allows (3.13 in comparison to Peyton Jones’ 3.11).

Other notable goaltender performances of the week included Wichita’s Trevor Gorsuch recording 50 saves as the Thunder secured a 4-3 shootout win against Kansas City, Reading’s Nolan Maier allowing just one goal in 43 shots versus Adirondack, and Matt Radomsky of the Rapid City Rush securing a shutout at Maine.

DeRidder, Dornbach, and the Heartlanders look to open their seven-game homestand by completing the three-game sweep of Kalamazoo on Wednesday, February 7th, at Xtream Arena, followed by a weekend against the Cincinnati Cyclones, three games with the Indy Fuel, and Wednesday action on the 21st against Wichita. Fans can look forward to Country Night with discounted drinks on February 9th, Cancer Awareness Night on the 10th, a lovely Valentine’s Day themed on the 14th, Star Wars Night on Friday the 16th, and finish the homestand off with Blackout Night and Specialty Jerseys on Saturday, February 17th.
