For the second time in less than a week, a former Newfoundland Growler has decided to take the overseas route as Isaac Johnson signed a one-year deal with Jukurit in Liiga. Johnson would spend three seasons in the WHL with Tri-City Americans and Winnipeg Ice, putting up 57 goals and 96 assists for 153 points in 161 games. The Minnesota native would spend the 2020-21 in the SPHL, where he played for the Huntsville Havoc and Knoxville Ice Bears, playing in 27 games, scoring seven goals and 13 assists for 20 points. After the 2020-21 season, Johnson would sign his first professional contract with the Manitoba Moose, as he would spend the next two years with the Moose putting up two goals and four assists for points in 22 games before he signed a one-year deal with the Toronto Marlies for the 2023-24 season in which he would play eight games with the Marlies putting up one goal and one assist.
The 25-year-old forward spent three seasons with the Newfoundland Growlers, putting up 64 goals and 75 assists for 139 points in 175 games, which puts him second all-time in points for the now-defunct Newfoundland Growlers. Johnson would lead Newfoundland in goals and points, as well as finishing tied for second on the team in assists. He had 31 goals and 37 assists for 68 points in 50 games this season. He joins Johnny Tychonick and Zach O’Brien as the third Growler to head overseas so far this Summer.
