ECHL: Isak Walther Brings Size and Skill to Atlanta Lineup

The Atlanta Gladiators have signed forward Isak Walther for the 2025–26 ECHL season, adding size, skill, and hockey sense to their forward group.

NCAA Career and Academic Background

Walther, a 6’4” right winger from Södertälje, Sweden, just completed a four-year collegiate career at the University of Vermont, where he studied Applied Economics. In his senior season, he recorded 17 points (6G, 11A) over 33 games and netted the game-winning goal against Maine in the Hockey East playoffs. Across 128 NCAA games, he totaled 56 points (23G, 33A), showcasing consistency and a strong two-way presence.

Draft Pedigree and Physical Development

The Nashville Predators selected Walther in the sixth round (#179 overall) of the 2019 NHL Draft. Since then, he has steadily added strength to complement his natural reach and size—something that’s changed the way he approaches his game.

“I feel like I can use my body more,” Walther said. “When I played juniors, I would maybe use my quickness rather than have a guy on me and try to push him away.”

That physical growth has given him more confidence in puck protection and net-front battles, which should translate well to the pro level.

Gladiators Director of Hockey Operations and Head Coach Matt Ginn praised the signing and Walther’s well-rounded game.

“Isak is a big body coming off a successful college career at Vermont. He has very good hands and a good shot. Isak uses his size and strength effectively to get to the dirty areas on the ice. He is a very driven player, and we are excited to work with Isak this season.” (Atlanta Gladiators, 2025)

Ginn also noted Walther’s shot and offseason preparation, highlighting his commitment to growth and skill refinement (Atlanta Gladiators, 2025).

What Walther Brings to Atlanta

Walther shoots right, weighs 205 pounds, and brings a physical edge that could be a difference-maker in Atlanta’s offensive system. With Walther on board, the Gladiators continue building a competitive 2025–26 roster that blends size, intelligence, and scoring upside. Walther brings a combination of size, smarts, and skill that could quickly make him a fan favorite at Gas South Arena.
