Jack Quinlivan has officially announced his retirement from professional hockey. Jack Quinlivan, who has spent the past two years with the Railers, is an inspiration to many. He has battled cancer and officially beat it. It was a freak accident that happened to Quinlivan while playing the game that he loves. There was an abnormal bump that was discovered during an ultrasound. Jack had six months of treatment to be the person he was before the incident. He had two surgeries to remove several chains of cancerous lymph nodes that spread. Quinlivan remained in good spirits despite his unknown future.

Jack, who signed with the club as a rookie for the 2022-23 season out of the University of Maine, deserves retirement from the sport he will always love. He was only able to play ten games in his rookie season before he was unfortunately diagnosed with thyroid cancer in late 2022. He missed the rest of the season for treatment of his cancer.

He earned a roster for the 2023-24 season after battling cancer after he was invited to training camp. After 11 months, he made his lineup return against the Newfoundland Growlers, who are no longer a team. He recorded an assist in that game.

Quinlivan’s spot in the lineup will not go unnoticed. As the team’s offseason is already off to a great start. The Railers will be able to make do with his absence. The organization and fans wish Quinlivan luck in his future and once a Railer always a Railer. Jack Quinlivan will be missed and the team will feel his absence.
