The Jacksonville Icemen announced today that they and Head Coach Brandon Mashinter have mutually decided to part ways, effective immediately. In the meantime, Assistant Coach Sean Teakle will step in as the Interim Head Coach, while Garret Cockerill takes on the role of primary assistant coach.

“On behalf of our organization, we would like to thank Brandon Mashinter for all of his hard work in helping to elevate our team to a high level these past three and half years. We will always be grateful for Brandon’s contributions to our team and wish him all the best in his future endeavors.  We are very excited to have Sean Teakle take the leadership reins and help guide our team to the playoffs and continue to field a team that will make Jacksonville proud.”

Teakle joined the Icemen this past summer after spending two seasons with the Ontario Hockey League’s Owen Sound Attack. Hailing from Mississauga, Ontario, he brings a decade of OHL experience, including two years as an assistant coach with the Niagara IceDogs from 2020 to 2022. Before joining the OHL, Teakle served as an associate coach with the North York Rangers in the Ontario Junior Hockey League.

Interestingly, the decision to part ways with Mashinter comes despite the Icemen holding a solid 29-16-2-1 record, placing them third in the South Division with 48 games under their belt this season. Although he didn’t finish a full season as head coach, the reasons behind this change remain unclear, leaving fans questioning the team’s decision.

The Icemen will return home for a matchup against the Orlando Solar Bears on Saturday at 7:00 PM EST.
