SPHL defenseman and recent Jacksonville Icemen loan Connor Russell is ready to ride. The 27-year-old defenseman announced he will participate in the Princess Margaret Ride to Conquer Cancer this June. It’s the second time he’s participated in the charity bike ride. The charity event is an annual event hosted by the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre and aims to raise money for various cancer research and treatments. The event allows riders to choose one of the multiple routes, each over 100km (62 miles), to take as they ride with the goal of fundraising to conquer cancer in this lifetime.
Russell will be riding for the Air Canada Team and is looking to raise $2,500 to participate in the ride. He’s currently raised $1,650 of his $2,500 goal. Russell joined the Icemen back in February on loan from the Huntsville Havoc of the Southern Professional Hockey League. He’s played 16 games in an Icemen uniform, collecting one assist. Russell has registered one assist through 14 games with the Havoc this year. The defenseman has also seen playing time with the South Carolina Stingrays and Iowa Heartlanders of the ECHL this season.
The Princess Margaret Cancer Centre is based in Toronto, Ontario. It is the most comprehensive cancer treatment in Canada and one of the world’s top five cancer research centers. The center has treated over 200 different kinds of cancer and sees patients from all over the globe.
