The Jacksonville Icemen have announced that they have signed forward Liam Coughlin to a contract for the 2024-25 season. Coughlin is entering his fifth year in the ECHL after spending time with the Indy Fuel, Worcester Railers, and Iowa Heartlanders, where he’s put up 31 goals and 54 assists for 85 points in 183 regular season games. The 29-year-old forward has also played in eight career AHL games, recording just one assist while spending two games with the Rockford Ice Hogs, Bridgeport Islanders, Springfield Thunderbirds, and Providence Bruins. Coughlin is a defensive-minded forward who won’t rack up a ton of points and will likely be a bottom-six forward for the Icemen heading into next season. Coughlin is the 14th signing for the Icemen this off-season.
Prior to going pro, the former fifth-round pick of the Edmonton Oilers in 2014 spent two years in the BCHL with the Vernon Vipers, where he put up 38 goals and 67 assists for 105 points in 107 games and would lead the Vipes in assists during the 2014-15 season. He would play in 30 BCHL playoff games over the course of his two years with the Vipers, putting up 10 goals and 23 assists for 33 points during the postseason. The Boston, Massasschustes native played his collegiate hockey at the University of Vermont, where he put up 18 goals and 38 assists for 56 points in 129 games with the Catamounts. Coughlin will now reunite with Derek Lodermeier, who he played with for three years at Vermont.
