The ECHL has announced that Trois-Rivieres Lions forward Jakov Novak has been named the ECHL Player of the Week. In four games last week, the Windsor, Ontario, native put up four goals and four assists for eight points in four games, including a goal and two assists in Sunday’s 6-1 over the Adirondack Thunder and is currently riding a five-game point streak where he has four goals and five assists for nine points. He has 12 goals and 16 assists for 28 points in 23 games this season and is currently on an AHL deal with the Laval Rocket. He played in two games with Laval last season, failing to find the scoresheet, but has yet to see any time with the Rocket this season.
Novak, 26, is in his third year in the ECHL as he’s put up 49 goals and 47 assists for 96 points in 103 games with the Trois-Rivieres Lions and Allen Americas; Novak is also coming off a 30-goal season. He has seven goals and one assist for eight points in 12 career Kelly Cup Playoff Games. Prior to going pro, Novak spent five seasons at the NCAA level, where he would put up 46 goals and 45 assists for 91 points as he spent time at Bentley University and Northeastern. He would be named to the AHA First All-Star Team in 2020 and then would win a Hockey East Championship in 2022. In 2018, he would be drafted by the Ottawa Senators in the seventh round.
