ECHL: James White Heads Overseas

Wheeling Nailers Forward James White is heading overseas to Slovakia to join HC Nove Zamky after putting up two assists in just five games last season. White was not on Wheeling’s Kelly Cup Playoff roster and wasn’t on the Nailers season-ending roster. He becomes the sixth Nailer to leave the ECHL after the season finished; of the six, five of those players have been forwards.

Prior to playing for Wheeling, the Victoria, BC, native had played in the OJHL, QMJHL, and USports. He played 16 games in the OHL, one of which was during the 2016-17 season, when he appeared in just one game with the Lindsay Muskies. His other stint came during the 2019-20 season, when he played 15 games with the Wellington Dukes, scoring five goals and recording 11 assists for 16 points. James White also had two goals and an assist for three points in four postseason games. The 25-year-old would spend parts of two seasons in the QMJHL with the Saint John’s Sea Dogs. He would put up eight goals and 10 assists for 18 points in 91 games.

Once his time in Juniors was over, he would head to USports, where he would play four years. In 97 games with the Ridgebacks, he would put up 32 goals and 44 assists for 76 points in 97 games. He would add one assist in eight playoff games as the Ridgebacks made the playoffs in each of the four years White was there. White had back-to-back 12-goal seasons in 2022-23 and 2023-24, the only two seasons he would hit the double-digit goal plateau.
