
The Wheeling Nailers have announced that they are bringing back goaltender Jaxon Castor for the 2025-26 season. Castor, 28, served as the third goaltender for the Nailers the last two seasons, playing in 30 games while putting up a 16-11-2 record with a 3.15 GAA, and .886SV%. Castor made his AHL debut this season with the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins on January 15th, where he stopped 26 of 30 shots in a loss to the Laval Rocket. He kept the Nailers alive in Game 4 of the North Divison Semifinals, where he stopped 29 of 30 shots against the Trois-Rivières Lions. He went 4-3-1 with a 2.73 GAA, .913SV%, and one shutout during the 2024 Kelly Cup Finals.
Castor’s Junior and NCAA Career
The Phoenix, Arizona, native spent the majority of his junior career in the USHL with the Dubuque Fighting Saints. In 82 games with the Fighting Saints, he went 44-25-8 with a 2.55 GAA, .897 GAA, and six shutouts. He would go 4-4 with a 2.97 GAA, .914SV%, and one shutout in eight playoff games with Dubuque. Castor would see 18 games in the NAHL during the 2017-18 season with the Shreveport Mudbugs and would lead the Mudbugs to a Robertson Cup Championship. He also led the league in GAA (1.50).
Castor would then take the NCAA route, where he would play four years at the Division I level with St. Cloud State University. In 32 games with the Huskies, he would put up a 20-16-1 record with a 2.38 GAA, .918 SV%, and four shutouts. Castor made his ECHL debut at the end of the 2022-23 season, where he played in two games with the Florida Everblades while posting a 2.07 GAA and .912SV%.
