Defenseman Jed Pietila is officially back in Walleye blue. The team announced the re-signing of Jed Pietila, bringing the blueliner back for the 2025-26 season after a strong first full year in the pros.

2024-25 Season Recap

Pietila appeared in 59 games with the Toledo Walleye during the 2024-25 regular season, picking up two goals and 10 assists for a total of 12 points. He also logged 18 penalty minutes and finished with a -2 plus/minus rating.

While Pietila’s offensive numbers may not jump off the page, his value came in the form of steady defensive play, reliable puck management, and the ability to absorb tough minutes in his own zone. His low penalty total highlights his disciplined style, and he frequently took shifts in late-game defensive situations. Pietila also made an appearance in one playoff game during Toledo’s 2025 postseason run, gaining more pro experience in pressure moments.

From College to Pro

Before making the leap to the ECHL, Pietila played four seasons at Michigan Tech, developing into a reliable two-way defenseman known for his hockey IQ. In his senior season (2023-24), he skated in 40 games, contributing two goals and 12 assists for 14 points and a +7 rating, while adding 26 penalty minutes. The year before, in 2022-23, he posted one goal and 15 assists for 16 points in 35 games, finishing with a +11 rating. His steady production and defensive awareness made him a key piece of Michigan Tech’s blue line.

Pietila joined Toledo at the end of the 2023-24 season, stepping right into the lineup. He made an immediate impact, recording three points in five regular-season games, scoring his first professional goal, and adding two assists. He also appeared in one playoff game for the Walleye that year.

What’s Next?

Now entering his second full season with the Walleye, Pietila will be expected to continue developing his game while providing a steady presence on Toledo’s back end. With his combination of college leadership experience, professional poise, and familiarity with the system, he’s poised to play a key role in the Walleye’s 2025-26 lineup.

Fans can expect to see him back on the ice this fall as Toledo looks to build on last season’s success and make another deep playoff run.

Toledo will open the 2025-26 season on the road against a division rival. The Walleye face off against the Indy Fuel on Saturday, October 18th, 2025, at the Fishers Event Center. Puck drop is set for 7:00 PM EDT as Toledo looks to start the new campaign strong in their first official game of the season.
