
Fort Wayne Komets forward Jermaine Loewen has announced his retirement from pro hockey after six seasons. In what would be his final season in professional hockey, Loewen had two goals and three assists for five points in 20 games with the Kalamazoo Wings before playing in two games with the Fort Wayne Komets as his ECHL career came full circle.
The former seventh-round pick of the Dallas Stars in 2018 began his pro career during the 2019-20 season. He saw 31 games at the AHL level with the Chicago Wolves, where he had a goal and an assist. He also saw 19 games at the ECHL level with the Fort Wayne Komets, putting up three goals and an assist for four points. Loewen would join the Henderson Silver Knights for the 2020-21 season and would end up spending the next three seasons in Henderson. In 117 games with the Silver Knights, he put up eight goals and 12 assists for 20 points. He also played in two Calder Cup Playoff games with Henderson. Loewen would spend the 2023-24 season with the Abbotsford Canucks, where he put up two assists in 26 games.
Prior to going pro, the Jamaican winger spent four seasons in the WHL with the Kamloops Blazers. In his first two seasons with the Blazers, he had 14 goals and 18 assists for 32 points in 133 games. He would break out in his final two years, putting up 64 goals and 39 assists for 103 points in 125 games. Loewen would captain the Blazers in his final season with the team.
