
The Adirondack Thunder have announced that they’ve signed defenseman Jimmy Dowd Jr. for the 2025-26 season. In 27 games last season with the Penn State Nitney Lions, Dowd put up a goal and nine assists for 10 games while also wearing an “A”. Dowd spent time at the New Jersey Devils Development Camp Last Month. He becomes the third defenseman and eighth player signed to a contract for the 2025-26 season. Dowd joins a very young blue line so far, with rookies Pierson Brandon, and Ian Pierce, both of whom re-signed for the 2025-26 season.
Prior to going pro, Jimmy Dowd Jr. spent time in the NAHL, USHL, and NCAA. The Point Pleasant, NJ, native began his junior career in the NAHL with the New Jersey Titans, where he put up three goals and seven assists for 10 points in 40 games. He would then spend two seasons in the USHL with the Chicago Steel, where he put up five goals and 35 assists for 40 points in 90 games. He would also wear an “A” in his second season with the Steel. Dowd would then take the NCAA route, playing five years at Penn State. In 150 games with the Nitney Lions, he had 12 goals and 61 assists for 73 points in 150 games.
Dowd Family Ties
Jimmy Dowd Jr.’s father is Jim Dowd, who the New Jersey Devils drafted in the eighth round of the 1987 NHL Draft. During his 16-year career, he had 71 goals and 168 assists for 239 points. He would add nine goals and 17 assists for 26 points in 99 games. Six of those sixteen seasons would be spent with the Devils, where he put up 14 goals and 21 assists for 41 points and won a Stanley Cup with the Devils in 1995. Dowd also saw time with the Vancouver Canucks, New York Islanders, Calgary Flames, Edmonton Oilers, Minnesota Wild, Montreal Canadiens, Chicago Blackhawks, Colorado Avalanche, and Philadelphia Flyers.
