The Atlanta Gladiators have re-signed forward Joey Cipollone for the 2025–26 ECHL season, keeping a high‑motor, two‑way center in the fold after a breakout year in the ATL.

Solid First Season in the ATL

Cipollone made his professional debut with the Worcester Railers in the 2023–24 season, where he appeared in 63 games, posting 22 points (7g-15a) while adjusting to the speed and physicality of the ECHL. His ability to contribute in all three zones and handle penalty kill duties earned him consistent ice time as a rookie.

In 2024–25, he joined the Atlanta Gladiators and quickly established himself as one of the team’s most versatile forwards, recording 15 goals and 19 assists for 34 points in 68 games. His contributions spanned every facet of the game—including power-play production and even a shorthanded tally—and his relentless energy became a defining part of Atlanta’s offensive attack. His season was highlighted in our 2024–25 Atlanta Gladiators End of Season Review, where we noted his ability to bring “a much-needed spark and offensive balance” while being “one of the most reliable and versatile players on the roster” (Inside the Rink, 2025).

Adding to that praise, his ability to “chip in across all situations—from the power play to even registering a shorthanded goal, made him an indispensable all-around forward… a driving force in the team’s offensive attack” (Inside the Rink, 2025) underscored just how critical he was to the team.

Coach’s Perspective

“Joey came in and did a great job for us last season,” said Gladiators Director of Hockey Operations and Head Coach, Matt Ginn. “He contributed in all situations and was a very well liked and respected teammate in the room. He won a championship at Quinnipiac and knows what it takes to win. We’re excited to bring Joey back and expect him to take another step for us.” (Atlanta Gladiators, 2025).

College Experience

Before turning pro, Cipollone spent five seasons in NCAA Division I hockey, beginning with the University of Vermont before transferring to Quinnipiac University. At Vermont, he showed early offensive promise, tallying 25 points in 47 games over parts of two seasons. His move to Quinnipiac marked a turning point—playing under a championship-caliber program, he refined his two-way game and became a trusted contributor in all situations.

During his time with the Bobcats, Cipollone appeared in 107 games, notching 37 points (19g-18a) while helping Quinnipiac capture the 2023 NCAA National Championship. Known for his strong work ethic, quick release, and ability to adapt to multiple roles, he built a reputation as a smart, dependable forward capable of contributing beyond the scoresheet.

What to Expect in 2025–26

Cipollone projects as a versatile, all‑situations forward: fast on pucks, reliable through the middle of the ice, and comfortable toggling between playmaker and finisher. Expect him to log key minutes again—and to push his totals with improved confidence and chemistry.

Gladiators hockey returns on Saturday, October 18th, 2025, as the Utah Grizzlies visit Gas South Arena for a 7:10 PM puck drop.
