ECHL: Kansas City Mavericks Forward Jacob Hayhurst Awarded League’s Player of the Week

After a three-game series sweep against the Wichita Thunder, Jacob Hayhurst of the Kansas City Mavericks has been named the ECHL Player of the Week. In those three games, he netted six goals and earned two assists for a total of eight points in a 72-hour span. Hayhurst is the first Maverick to earn the Player of the Week award this season.

The series would begin Friday, December 29th, in Wichita, where Hayhurst would get his first of eight points, scoring a goal late in the game off an assist pass from ECHL’s November Rookie of the Month award winner Max Andreev. This was his 10th goal of the season, and Kansas City would win this game 5-2.

Game 2 of the series is where Jacob Hayhurst would start to show why he should be considered for this award by completing a hat trick and winning 6-0 to end their stay in Wichita. On Sunday’s return to a sold-out barn in Kansas City, Hayhurst would once again open scoring for the game with a goal, making it his 100th point in the ECHL. He would total four points in this game with two goals and two assists and won the game 9-2.

Hayhurst is currently tied at 8th place in goals scored this year in the ECHL at 15 goals and has a points per game of 0.862. This is Jacob’s fourth year playing professional hockey, his first for Kansas City.
