The Norfolk Admirals announced today that they have signed defenseman Andrew McLean and forward Justin Young for the 2023-24 season.
McLean, 28, split last season between the Orlando Solar Bears (ECHL) and Glasgow Clan (EIHL), amassing 19 points in 38 games with Glasgow. McLean’s diverse experience was praised by Admirals GM and Coach Jeff Carr, who sees him as a top-four defenseman and power play asset.
McLean’s initial pro contract actually began with Norfolk in March 2020, however, it was interrupted by COVID-19. He expressed excitement about returning to Norfolk, where he started his career.
Young, 25, enjoyed his full first professional season last year with the Allen Americans, contributing 7 points in 51 regular season games and 3 points in playoffs. Coach Carr praised Young’s resilience and physicality, comparing his potential role to that of Pat Maroon and Tom Wilson.
Both players are now set to contribute to the Admirals’ lineup, adding to the team’s prospects signed from the Future Considerations Deadline. These two guys are sure to make solid contributions to the team, as the Admirals search for success and try to make their way back to the playoffs.
