Adirondack Thunder forward Kevin O’Neil is heading overseas to Slovakia to join HC Banská Bystrica after spending his first four professional seasons in North America. In 60 games with the Thunder last season, the 27-year-old forward had 19 goals and 30 assists for 49 points. O’Neil is the third player from the Thunder heading overseas, joining Dennis Busby and Kaleb Ergang. This is a massive loss for Adirondack heading into the 2025-26 season as they will be without their biggest point producer.
During his four-year ECHL career, Kevin O’Neil would put up 65 goals and 107 assists for 172 points in 186 games with the South Carolina Stingrays and Adirondack Thunder. He would add a goal and two assists for three points during the 2023 Kelly Cup Playoffs. O’Neil also saw nine games of action at the AHL level with the Hershey Bears and Colorado Eagles, where he had a goal and an assist. The Latham, NY, native would lead Adirondack in assists (30) and points (49).
Prior to going pro, O’Neil spent one season in the USHL with the Madison Capitals and Fargo Force, where he put up 14 goals and 21 assists for 35 points in 57 games. O’Neil would then spend four years at the NCAA level. He would spend three seasons at Yale, where he put up 17 goals and 27 assists for 44 points as a member of the Bulldogs. O’Neil would spend his final year of eligibility at UConn, where he had six goals and 10 assists for 16 points in 36 games.
