ECHL: Kyle Mayhew Heads Overseas

The Fort Wayne Komets have now lost their fourth player and second this week to an overseas team. Defenseman Kyle Mayhew is heading to Germany to join the Augsburger Panthers of the DEL. The ECHL Defenseman of the Year had 11 goals and 41 assists for 52 points in 60 games. He led all Komet defenders in all offensive categories. Mayhew had one goal and eight assists for nine points in 11 games during the Kelly Cup Playoffs. He would add two goals and eight assists for 10 points in 16 games in the AHL with the Bakersfield Condors.

Kyle Mayhew, 27, spent his first three professional seasons in the AHL and ECHL. He would put up 27 goals and 85 assists for 112 points in 136 games with the Utah Grizzlies and Fort Wayne Komets during his time in the ECHL. In his rookie year in the ECHL, he was named to the ECHL All-Star Team, All-Rookie Team, and ECHL Second All-Star Team. Prior to this season, he spent one game with the Colorado Eagles in the American Hockey League (AHL).

College/Junior Career

Prior to going pro, the Anaheim Hills, California native spent time in the NAHL and NCAA. In 94 games in the NAHL with the Aberdeen Wings and Fairbanks Ice Dogs, Mayhew put up eight goals and 43 assists for 51 points. He would spend his collegiate career at the University of Denver. In five seasons with the Pioneers, Mayhew put up six goals and 29 assists for 35 points in 153 NCAA games. The Pioneers would win back-to-back NCHC Championships in 2022 and 2023. They would win the National Championship in 2022.
