
Wheeling Nailers captain Louie Roehl is heading overseas to Austria to join Pioneers Vorarlberg in the ICEHL. He spent his first three professional seasons with the Wheeling Nailers. Roehl played in all 72 games last season, putting up five goals and 20 assists for 25 points. He was the only Nailer to play in all 72 games during the regular season. He would add one assist in five games during the Kelly Cup Playoffs. Roehl would end up being named captain of the Nailers on February 28th. He is the fourth member of the Nailers to head elsewhere this offseason, joining Chrystopher Collin, Eli Lieffers, and Lars Ronde. Throughout his three seasons with Wheeling, Roehl put up 10 goals and 48 assists for 58 points in 186 games. He would add two assists in 14 career Kelly Cup Playoff games.
Prior to going pro, Louie Roehl would spend a year in the NAHL with the Minnesota Wilderness and Waterloo Black Hawks. He would put up four goals and 30 assists for 34 points in 57 games. He was one of three players on the Wilderness who finished the year with 30 assists. Roehl would be named to the NAHL All-Rookie Second team as well. The Eden Prairie, Minnesota, native would return to Minnesota to play five seasons at the NCAA level with the University of Minnesota-Duluth. During his four years with the Bulldogs, he put up seven goals and 22 assists for 29 points in 180 games. The Bulldogs would win back-to-back National Championships in 2018 and 2019.
