Earlier today, the Greensboro Gargoyles marked another franchise milestone by completing the organization’s first trade. The deal sent a fan favorite, listed as future considerations, to the Rapid City Rush in exchange for 23-year-old forward Luke Mylymok.
The Latest Gargoyle
The Gargoyles’ inaugural season will also be Luke Mylymok’s first full professional season, as he made his debut last year with the Rapid City Rush. Prior to making his professional debut, the left-shot forward played collegiately at Minnesota-Duluth for three seasons. His best statistical season in Minnesota came in 2022-2023, when he scored three goals and added five assists for eight points in 31 games.
After his time at Minnesota-Duluth, Mylymok joined Niagara University, where he immediately saw a jump in his development—scoring nine goals and adding seven assists for 16 points in 38 games. That growth continued after joining current Gargoyles head coach Scott Burt in Rapid City last season, as Mylymok managed to score 12 goals and contribute eight assists for 20 points in 45 games.
Familiar Faces
Gargoyles Head Coach Scott Burt clearly brought out the best in Mylymok during their time together in Rapid City, as the forward found the back of the net more often than in any other season of his career—outside of his run with the Notre Dame Hounds U18 AAA squad in 2017-18, when he scored nearly a goal per game. Burt is excited to bring another one of “his guys” to Greensboro, saying, “Mylsy came to me last year just before Christmas. He’s got a knack for the net and scored some big-time goals. The more he continues to work and develop, his game will continue to get better and better. He has a relentless work ethic and is a great teammate, which is something that every expansion team needs to find success.” (Greensboro Gargoyles, 2025).
As seen with Mylymok’s former and now current teammate Logan Nelson, the Gargoyles’ front office is putting a clear emphasis on adding players who can score big goals and are difficult to play against.
Looking to the Future
Greensboro’s newest addition is still just 23 years old, and if he continues to develop as he did in his first ECHL season, he could be a strong contributor on the ice for years to come. Mylymok is eager to get to Greensboro and reunite with his former head coach. “I’m super excited to have this opportunity to play in Greensboro for such a unique organization, as well as get another chance to play under Burty,” Mylymok said. (Greensboro Gargoyles, 2025).
“I was fortunate to have had the opportunity to play for him last year, and with everything that he went through, it will be awesome to be able to do it again. I’m looking forward to getting to Greensboro and seeing what this city is all about. I’ve only heard great things about it, and can’t wait to put in the work with the boys to make this inaugural season one to remember” (Greensboro Gargoyles, 2025).
In an ideal scenario, Greensboro will be able to count on both Nelson and Mylymok as cornerstone pieces for the next few seasons. The Gargoyles are expected to stay busy this offseason as they build an entire roster from the ground up, so fans should keep a close eye on the team’s next move.
